Bardia Attaran, in an interview with the Strategic Council on Foreign Relations website about the trend of disputes between Palestinian groups, stated that these differences had lessened in recent years. Before the start of the Gaza war, Hamas representatives reached agreements with the Palestinian Authority to manage the Gaza Strip.<\/p>\n
He explained China’s reasons for mediating between Palestinian groups: “Regarding the agreement of 14 Palestinian groups to be mediated by China, it should be said that the Chinese are trying to move the world towards a multipolar order during the transition period of the current international order led by the United States.” In this regard, Beijing wants to create new poles so that China would at least be one of the poles of the new international system and order.<\/p>\n
According to this researcher, to be one of the poles of the new international order, the Chinese need to have a discourse on foreign policy and regional arrangements. The narrative the United States presents to the world is apparently based on democracy, and the Chinese have not been able to present an alternative discourse for democracy. Therefore, they are trying to create a superior and worthy position for themselves at the global level by playing the role of mediator in important regional and international disputes.<\/p>\n
Attaran explained: “While the United States tries to play the role of a ruler, manager, and coordinator in the international system in a way that rewards its companions and allies and punishes those who attack its desired order, the Chinese have tried to present and pursue a new discourse, and that discourse is mediation.<\/p>\n
He added: “At the top of the mediation-oriented actions of the Chinese in the West Asia region, they could mediate between Iran and Saudi Arabia and introduce their position as an order maker and an international actor to the world.”<\/p>\n
The expert on international issues pointed out that from the beginning of October 7 until today, the Chinese have tried to present themselves as a mediator and a country that wants to save the prisoners of the occupying regime, and continued: “They have also made efforts to end the war from the beginning between the Israeli regime and Hamas.”<\/p>\n
This researcher added: The Chinese are trying to convey to the world that its goal and intention is to create stability wherever China enters. The meaning of stability is to increase trade and common benefit. This is the Chinese discourse, and they know all their efforts in international mediation because mediation between groups leads to peace and stability, peace and stability leads to stability, and stability leads to economic prosperity.<\/p>\n
