Dr. Seyyed Kamal Kharrazi made these remarks during a meeting with Mr. Mohammad Al-Hassan, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Iraq and head of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI). The two discussed significant regional developments and their impact on Iraq.

Dr. Kharrazi explained that weakening the regional capacity to counter Zionist aggression, including undermining Syria as a supporter of resistance, has long been a strategy pursued by the United States and the Zionist regime. He noted that this agenda dates back to President Obama’s declaration that “Assad must go.”

Expressing his concerns over the situation in Syria, Dr. Kharrazi said that the Zionist regime has exploited the power vacuum in Syria and has carried out extensive bombings, targeting military and civilian infrastructure, and violating Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He warned about the potential spread of instability from Syria to Iraq and called for immediate action by the UN Secretary-General and the Security Council to address these challenges.

Mr. Al-Hassan, in turn, provided an update on UNAMI’s activities and expressed hope that, despite the existing concerns, UNAMI’s mission would succeed.

Finally, Dr. Kharrazi reiterated the Islamic Republic of Iran’s readiness to assist the United Nations in fulfilling its responsibilities.
