Dr Kharrazi in his travel to China visited the Shanghai Institute of International Studies and held talks with SIIS President Yang Jiemian.
Professor Yang Jiemian said that SIIS is a highly important think tank in China that studies Chinese foreign political and strategic affairs and offers policy and strategy on related issues.
Referring to the visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to Iran two year ago, he stated that a joint statement on strategic partnership was issued then between Iran and China, and the officials of the two countries need to hold regular meetings for its materialization.
Also speaking on the victory of the Islamic Revolution in Iran 40 years ago, professor Yang Jiemian said that reforms and open door policy took place in China simultaneously. Since then, both countries of Iran and China strived to strengthen bilateral ties and their relations are now stronger than ever, while the regional influence of both countries has increased.
Mr Yang Jiemian reiterated that both China and Iran should be aware of their strategic advantages and, in addition to benefiting from them, they should also use each other’s experiences.
In response, Dr Kharrazi said that the joint statement by Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani and China’s President Xi Jinping is a very good basis for expanding bilateral ties. During the visit, the implementation of the statement was also discussed.
Speaking on the aftereffects of the US exit from Iran nuclear deal, the SCFR President said that several rounds of talks have taken place with Europeans and that the negotiations are still going on. He expressed hope that with the package that Europe is going to offer, Iran’s rights will be guaranteed.
Dr Kharrazi pointed out that Iran’s relations with China and Russia are of great importance. Therefore, in order to solve the problems after the US withdrawal, he noted, the talks should continue and initiatives should be offered.
In regards to terrorism and regional issues, the two sides emphasized on the continuation of the talks between Iran Strategic Council on Foreign Relations and the Ministry of International Affairs of the Chinese Communist Party.
Before visiting the Shanghai Institute for International Studies, Dr Kharrazi toured the Shanghai International University and talked with the university chancellor, dignitaries, and experts on the Middle East and Oriental studies and responded to their questions.
